ALBINA SORBO Albina Sorbo passed away on May 8, 2005 after a short hospitalization, in Victoria General Hospital. Albina was born in Czechoslovakia, the third child of parents Frank Svoboda and Antonia Caloud. She received her education in Winnipeg at a school for the deaf from which she graduated in 1929, receiving a bronze medal. It was in June of 1946, at a convention in Calgary, that she met Alton and later married him on October 15, 1946. Together they farmed at Roblin until they retired to Winnipeg in 1969. They spent 20 comfortable years in their home on William Avenue before moving to the Deaf Centre, Manitoba. Albina was predeceased by her husband Alton; her parents; four sisters, Rose, Frances, Tena and Anna. She is survived by two brothers, Frank Svoboda of Milden, SK and Paul Svoboda (Evelyn) of Rosetown, SK and many nieces and nephews. Thank you to the nursing staff of the Personal Care Unit at the Deaf Centre for their patience, thoughtfulness and compassionate care. Thank you also to the unit staff at the Victoria General Hospital. A service to celebrate Albina's life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13 at the Deaf Centre of Manitoba, 285 Pembina Hwy. Interment will take place at Roblin, MB. Donations in Albina's memory may be made to the Deaf Centre, Manitoba, 285 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, R3L 2E1.
