Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLAFUR (OLI) EINAR LINDAL Peacefully on June 17, 2005 at his home with family by his side, Oli Lindal passed away at the age of 90. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Anna of 63 years; daughters Olive (Gestur), Rosemary, Joyce (Philip), Linda (Jim). His grandchildren Birdeen, Blair (Carmen) Jacobson, Jared, Rylan Raegan Wilkie great-grandson Braeden Jacobson, cherished family friend Sylvia Mason and her family, sister-in-law Emily Lindal and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his dad and mom Jacob and Thorunn; brothers Jonathon, Johann, Joseph, Siggi; sister, Loa; sister-in-laws Ruth and Emily; brother-in-law, Roy. Oli was born September 30, 1914 in 1-6 district near Morden. At the age of 11 days he came to the Sylvan homestead where he grew up and attended school. He started working at the age of 14 on farms, cordwood camps, trapping and fishing. On September 30, 1941, Oli married Anna Stansell of Vidir. They farmed in Vidir for 21 years. In February of 1963 he became driver salesman for Arborg Co-op fuel. They sold their farm in May and moved their new house they had built to Arborg in August 1963. He became the first weed supervisor for Interlake Weed control, a position he held for 12 years, followed by three summers with Agro Man. He drove school bus for two years and later volunteered as an ambulance driver. Oli devoted his life to his family, cherished many life long friends and contributed significantly to his community. He served on the Morweena School board, Vidir calf club, North Star Creamery, Arborg Agriculture Society (21 years), Ardal Lutheran Church Council, Arborg Community Co-op, Arborg Credit Union, Senior Citizen's Club, Interlake Senior Citizen Regional Council, Icelandic Culture Corporation, Esjan Arborg National League and Arborg Housing Authority Board. He was the founder of the Arborg Senior Citizen Club and of the Nordic Ski Club. In his later years his special interest was with the Arborg Heritage Village. A celebration of Oli's life will be held on Wednesday, June 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran church in Arborg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran church or a charity of one's choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home Arborg, in care of arrangements.
