SIGURDUR (LAWRENCE) SIGURDSON May 28, 1928 - August 20, 2005 Peacefully, on Saturday, August 20, 2005, Lawrence passed away at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 77 years. He leaves to mourn, his three daughters, Barbara Sigurdson (Eugene Miessner), Gail Morgan (Doug Logan) and Stacey Sigurdson; granddaughter Melanie; grandson Ryan; brother Ragnar (Sig) Sigurdson of California; and sister Violet Gair of British Columbia. His lovely wife Sadie predeceased Lawrence in May, 2001; as well as sisters, Jocelyn Dyck, Ruth Ivison; and brothers, Gordon and Paul Sigurdson. Both of Lawrence's parents immigrated to Manitoba at a young age with their parents from Iceland. Lawrence lost his parents by the age of ten years old and this is when he and his younger sister Jocelyn were sent to live and work on his Uncle Clarence and Aunt Sena's farm near Arborg. He always worked hard and his memories of living on the farm were the most dominate for him, even though he lived there for only five of his 77 years of life. He could recall and tell many interesting stories of his past farm life and logging experiences up at Fisher River when he was a boy. At the age of 15 and a half years old, Lawrence left for Winnipeg and following in his father's footsteps immediately found work as a printer at Universal Printers. He was very proud of his work and enjoyed it thoroughly. One of his greatest joys was talking with his co-workers. He continued to work there for the next 49 years. Lawrence's father previously had also been a printer, printing the Icelandic paper at the Columbia Press. Lawrence and his wife Sadie purchased a cottage and for approximately 30 years they spent their summer holidays at Winnipeg Beach with their family. He enjoyed working outdoors at the cabin and talking with the neighbours. Lawrence was the type of fellow who liked to work in the garden and mow the lawn. He received great joy being outside with nature. Family and friends are welcomed to attend Siggy's funeral service which will be held on Monday, August 29 at 1:30 p.m. in Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Ave. (corner of Mount Royal Road and Ness Avenue). For those who wish, parking will be available in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Parking Lot located on Ness Avenue. After Sadie had died, Lawrence kept her ashes in an urn at home so that he could remain close to her. In keeping with Lawrence's wishes, in honour of his wife Sadie and his love for her, interment for both Lawrence and Sadie will be held in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Ave. following the service. If God brings me to it, he will get me through it. WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
