GLENN RAMSAY GILLON With his family at his side, Glenn went home to be with his Lord and Saviour peacefully at the St. Boniface General Hospital on August 30, 2005 at the age of 80, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Glenn leaves to mourn his memory, sons, Brent (Monique) and Craig (Kim) and his cherished granddaughters, Jenna, Kelly, Sarah and Elyse. Glenn was predeceased by his loving wife Joyce in 2000 and parents, Robert and Anne in 1968. Glenn was born in Winnipeg on Sunday, November 16, 1924 and was the only child of Robert and Anne Gillon. He grew up in East Kildonan where he attended Prince Edward School until he left to support his family after his father's stroke. Glenn provided for his parents and maintained the family home up until his parents' death. In 1941 Glenn left his employment with the Canadian National Railway to volunteer with the Royal Canadian Air force and served as air crew until his return to the CNR after the Second World War. He continued his education as a Journeyman Carman and served 43 years with the CNR at their Transcona shops. Glenn met his loving wife of 49 years while their families attended the same church. They were married in 1951 and in 1956 moved to their home in Norwood, where they raised their family and were actively involved in church and community organizations and activities. Glenn and his family were members of Norwood United Church where he served as an Elder and in many other capacities. Glenn was very proud of his boy's accomplishments and was always involved with them during there activities. He was an especially supportive Hockey Dad and braved the elements on many a cold and early morning for practices and games. His involvement with the Masonic Lodge of Manitoba spanned over 50 years and was a source of many of his dearest friends and social outings. In 1970 Glenn got the RV bug, which started a decade of memorable vacations and times at Falcon Lake. In 1983, Glenn kicked of his retirement by purchasing a cottage at Falcon Lake, where the family still enjoys weekends and holidays. Glenn and Joyce spent summers at Falcon and winters in Scottsdale for two decades until health issues forced them to return to Winnipeg, residing in North Kildonan until his death. Whether at the cottage or around the pool in Arizona, he cherished his time with neighbours and friends and those regular brunch get-togethers after church. Of all his life's accomplishments, the one that gave him the most pride was his family; watching his family grow to be strong, capable, caring adults and leaders in their own communities. But more than that Dad would light up and sparkle anytime one of his granddaughters came to visit, and they knew very well where he kept his stash of ice cream treats and candy bars. We will remember you Dad for your self assured demeanour, who truly wanted only the best for those he loved including a cold ice-cream on a hot day for his dog Walnut. Thanks Dad for your love, compassion, and lifelong demonstration of what it means to be a husband, father, grandfather and friend. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Boniface General Hospital 5E and CancerCare Manitoba, who treated our Father with dignity and caring. Funeral services will be on Friday, September 2 at 12:30 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. (885-9715). In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
