IAN VANCE SHAW, BA BN RN August 15, 1949 - August 20, 2005 56 Years After a short and heartbreaking fight with cancer, our beloved son, brother and friend passed into God's loving care on August 20, 2005. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Ian received three degrees from the University of Manitoba. He moved to Vancouver, nursing two years at Vancouver General Hospital and over 26 years at St. Paul's Hospital. He passionately loved reading, favouring history and current affairs along with an eclectic taste for virtually any other topic. Ian enjoyed debating and was an excellent source of information, for as much as he loved learning, he loved to teach. His dry sense of humour, quick wit and distinctive laugh made you smile. Ian loved hockey, music, the mountains and the sea, Vancouver, the people at St. Pauls and sailing. Ian's cremated remains were released along the sunshine coast at his request. Ian is sorely missed by his mother Viola Bea Shaw of Winnipeg; his sister Barbara Shaw of Mississauga, and sister Linda Korotasz of Winnipeg; and three nieces, Christina of Yellowknife, NWT and Carol and Candace (Korotasz) of Winnipeg; as well as his friends and coworkers at St. Paul's. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and support staff at St. Paul's Palliative Care, the Pacific Spirit Health Unit and it's marvellous nursing staff and the Red Cross. Ian died in peace and with dignity due to all your efforts. We thank you. A memorial service was held Friday, August 26, 2005 at St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, BC. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society - Cancer Research would be appreciated, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
